Shanghai seems almost totally flat but there’s actually two little hills out in the suburbs to the west at a place called Sheshan (佘山). Just take metro line 9 to the station with the same name and then bus number 92 from outside. The “forest park” is nice enough but the main attraction is a Catholic church and observatory on the top of the western hill.
This basilica has been here since 1924 but there’s been a church of some kind on this site since 1863. I actually came here last October but the building was closed for renovation. This time there was a wedding. Maybe better luck next time…
The observatory was originally built by Jesuit missionaries. There’s an exhibition inside which is worth looking at around, but it’s all in Chinese.
The photos below are a mix of this week’s trip and my original visit last year which I forgot to blog about.
With respect for science and religion, he came to Sheshan on a yellow bicycle at the weekend. Although the mountains are not high, the scenery is still good. I was shocked to see the Catholic Church. It was one of the most beautiful churches I had ever seen. It was so beautiful. Walking into the church, feeling unusually quiet, before sitting down, I took a list of propaganda for Jesus. The world really needs a balance between science and religion. No one can do without them. Science can make us change the world, and religion can guide us to change the world better and better. If you want to take five-year-old children to climb mountains to cultivate willpower quality, you should start with Sheshan entry level , which has proved to be the right choice. She Shan is only 99 meters above sea level, and the mountain is very small, not in the eyes of young people, but along the way, we still see some fat men and girls shouting tired, shouting back, and then walk two steps to the top of the mountain. My child shouted too tired on the way, and with a little encouragement, he could go on, and then he rushed to play like a runaway horse at the sight of other children, indicating that he was far from the limit of physical fitness. So Sheshan is very suitable for climbing. Three hours is enough for travelers. I can rest or play with my children. I can learn from the observatory, and I can also play for six hours, a full day trip. Sheshan is divided into East and West Sheshan, and the map of the scenic spot is divided into two pieces. I have a full picture of Sheshan, to explain the tour route. Line 9 to Sheshan Railway Station and transfer to Songjiang 92 or 67 to Forest Park Station. This time, I met the free shuttle bus, which is a kind of service temporarily added to the scenic spot with a slightly higher traffic near Qingming. The friends that Qingming wants to know about it. The bus stop is near the South Gate of Dongshe Mountain. There is also a large parking lot and beautiful park gate. It should be the main gate of the scenic spot. After entering the South gate, there are decent climbing steps, and the climbing begins. However, apart from the old and young, the steps will stop before you feel tired and enter the slow downhill rhythm. There are dense forests on both sides of the trail. You can see the bamboo forests being preserved and visitors digging bamboo shoots. It also gives you the feeling of being in a famous mountain for a moment. Most of the tourists follow the red dots I marked in the picture. If they are interested, they can explore the fork of the south peak and the north peak by themselves. I did not go with my children. Out of the West Gate, I saw the Outer Qingsong Highway. It was very dramatic. Crossing the road was the entrance to the East Gate of Xishe Mountain. If Dongshe Mountain is only a small sparrow path, Xishe Mountain has perfect landscape towers, observatories, churches, and even small stores, with all the internal organs. Up the stairs, you will soon see the Xiudao Tower on the right. There are two ways to go up the hill. One is not to go to the tower, but to turn left to take the mountain road. The other is to go to the Xiudao Tower and climb from the stone road behind the tower. It is recommended to go down the hill on the first road and the second road. Because the first road leads to the zigzag road, pilgrims to churches have to go through the hard road, and non-religious friends can also take the opportunity to hone themselves. The mountains are too small to be addicted to, so let s walk around the circle. The church and the Observatory are situated next to each other on the top of the mountain. The ticket of the observatory is 12 yuan. Visitors with children are required to enter. There are popular science materials far beyond the ticket price, which can be lingered on. The monument of Sheshan Peak is also on the platform. The book is written at an altitude of 99 meters, and it always feels a little cold. Most tourists will not go to the West Gate, Seismological Station, Church Gate, Wooden Trestle Road and other areas. If they are interested, they can explore it by themselves. To leave, there is a bus stop not far from Xishe Shandong Gate. You can take Songjiang No. 67 or a temporary shuttle bus back to the subway station. An endless friend can climb Dongshe Mountain again and return from the original road of Nandaemun. Self-driving friends may have to climb Dongshe Mountain again in order to get their car back to the South Gate, or take a stop along the Outer Qingsong Highway back to the South Gate.
