I can see some lovely sunsets from the window here, but my attempts to take photos of them have been a bit of a failure. If I leave the automatic settings on it comes out either very bright or very dark, but generally fail. Experiment! Set the ISO setting very high and made these:
Lots of noise though, and Digikam’s de-noising algorithm, after churning away for a good 30 seconds makes absolutely no difference at all. Hmm.

sunsets tricky. high ISO -> nasty pictures. would suggest using ISO 400 max.
will probably need longer exposure, but usually worth it in quality difference.
things to maybe experiment with: lowering exposure a bit (e.g. set EV -0.3 or 0.6), and flicking through white balance settings. can get some fun colours playing with white balance :)

also, switching focus mode from centre-weighted to spot will make it more sensitive to light-levels at focus point, rather than trying to keep whole image in brightness range

OK, will try these. My camera seems to have a choice of “spot”, “centre-weighted” and “multi” (which it’s currently set to)

these are usual suspects for focus options
think it was centre-weighted for the picture posted. or at least so says exif :p
